Just Be

This week I have had the opportunity to share reiki with 2 clients. Client A had a sinus headache that was working up to a migraine because of stress. For him the headache lessened after a reiki treatment, and was completely gone after an aura clearing. Client B hurt her knee a few weeks ago and this was her fourth reiki treatment. The pain and swelling are gone and the mobility has returned. More impressive than healing their ailments was reiki's reminder to stop and take care of yourself.

Client A has known about reiki and other healing modalities for years because his mother is a reiki practitioner. Lately he has had numerous stressors from getting engaged, being offered a job in another city, finishing school, and his exwife sueing for sole custody of their children. With all of this going on he hasn't taken the time to stop and breathe; he hasn't taken care of himself. After the aura clearing took away his headache he said he felt light. He practically skipped out of the room. As we sat down to lunch, which was his payment for the treatment, he broke down. He told me how grateful he was for the opportunity to be treated because he had been ignoring his own health. For him the feeling of relaxation and release of pain brought into sharp contrast how his life is from what it use to be. Suddenly he saw how much stress has been weighing him down, affecting his sleep, changing his attitude, and making him gain weight. Now he's making time to relax each day and get back to looking at the bigger picture.

Client B came away with a similar sense of renewal. At the end of the session she said it was the best 30 minutes of her life. With school, family, work, and a strained marraige she said, "I've never taken the time to just be." Those words were an echoe of Client A's sentiment of not taking time for himself. As a mother she spends so much time taking care of others that she forgets to stop and take care of herself. In her home there isn't a retreat space for her to relax. She said the session was incredible not only for the physical healing but becuase it was 30 minutes she didn't have to think about deadlines or schedules.

Scheduling time in our busy schedules to remember ourselves tells us we are important, that we are worth being taken care of, and that we love ourselves. Taking just 5-10 minutes a day to breath in a quiet room without any noise will rejuvenate you. Those 5 minutes to calm and ground the frenzied energy you build up through out the day will actually help you be more productive. Taking 5 minutes can help you be more productive for 60 minutes, and be more healthy as you lower your stress levels.

Today, take 5 minutes and just be.
